Usage
Used in dyes and fine chemicals as a key intermediate for synthesizing basic and cationic dyes. Structurally similar to N-ethyl-N-benzylaniline, with the methyl substituent on the m-toluidine scaffold modulating dye shade toward red or purple. Primarily used in the synthesis of triphenylmethane basic dyes and certain azo cationic dyes, with important applications in acrylic fiber dyeing. The aromatic tertiary amine structural unit participates in subsequent condensation and coupling reactions to construct the chromophoric backbone of dye molecules.
